Asbestos cement was a standard garage roofing material in Britain until it was banned outright in 1999, so a garage in Widnes and Runcorn built or roofed before then may well have it. It is only a risk when disturbed, which is why breaking, drilling and pressure washing the sheets are the things to avoid.
What to do
Send photos from the ground with your postcode (WA7, WA8) and garage size. The roof is tested, and if it is asbestos the removal and new roof are priced together after inspection. If it is not, an ordinary roofer can replace it.
